Susan Brandsema
Susan Brandsema is a contemporary realist painter of landscapes and unique still life.
Nature is an ever changing source of inspiration for Susan’s plein air paintings and color studies, many of which are completed in her studio. From pristine untouched woods, to city streets or snowy mountains, the possibilities for a new canvas are endless and energizing.
“Painting in nature inspires me to observe the amazing minute-by-minute changes in light, shadows, weather conditions and seasons. My goal with each painting is to use color and paint strokes that convey the charm and emotions unique to just one moment in time.”
In 2002 Susan was a finalist in The Artist’s Magazine Competition, with more than 14,000 entries. Juror, David Leffel wrote “It was very difficult to make my decisions as there were so many excellent pieces. I tried to look not only at technique, but also at the content of the work- the feeling that the work conveyed….and the potential of the artist….A few other artists deserve special note for their outstanding work, including…Susan Brandsema Loretoni of Babylon, New York…. ” Susan was also honored as a finalist in the 2015 Artist’s Magazine Competition in the landscape category.
Susan Brandsema is an award winning, artist member of the Salmagundi Club in NYC, following in her Grandfather, Joseph Franke’s footsteps. The historic art club was founded in 1871 and has experienced a renaissance of representational art in recent years.
