Mary Ann Heinzen
Mary Ann Heinzen has been painting primarily in watercolor for over 40 years. She’s a full-time artist and devotes her life to perfecting her craft. Mary Ann creates work that is loose and painterly with strong color and contrast. She works in both representational and abstract styles, granting her a lot of diversity. For many years, Mary Ann worked as a watercolor instructor at the National Art League, and taught plein air classes at the Rock Hall Museum in Lawrence, New York.
Mary Ann works plein air whenever possible, especially when traveling. She has worked in locations including New York city, New England, the National Parks, Ireland, Spain, France, and New Zealand.
Mary Ann has received awards from many organizations. They include the Northeast Watercolor Society, the Salmagundi Club in Manhattan, the National Association of Women Artists and the National Art League in Douglaston, New York. Currently, her work was named Best in Show by the Maine Art Gallery at the “Paint Wiscasset and Beyond” plein air exhibition.
Artist statement:
“I still find this medium dynamic and challenging. Balancing control with letting go, I try to make an emotional statement about my subject. Using a wet into wet technique allows the colors to blend in often surprising and beautiful ways, creating a dialogue between me and the paper.”
Robert Paul Galleries is proud to show the works of American artist Mary Ann Heinzen.
